Meghalaya is taking a big step forward in sports development. The state government has dedicated ₹1,000 crore to improving sports infrastructure, marking a transformative era for the region. Since 2018, over 275 sports projects have been completed or are under construction, showcasing Meghalaya's commitment to nurturing local talent.
One of the highlights is the plan for a residential football academy, in collaboration with NorthEast United FC, aimed at becoming a beacon for young footballers in the Northeast. Additionally, the state has rolled out funding schemes for football clubs, offering up to ₹2 crore for elite teams and ₹15 lakh for grassroots and intermediate clubs.
Mission Football 2.0 is also on the horizon, designed to take the region’s football achievements to new heights. This initiative will not only promote sports but also encourage youth engagement, healthier lifestyles, and community development.
